our biggest diy

it all started in early 2016 – we had a 2 year old and a 5 week old baby. dane went to a local sheriff auction and came home and said … and i quote “you know how you’ve always wanted a wrap around porch ….we bought one.” and that was that – we started in on our “diy home” what we going to be a 3-5 year project.

we had never stepped foot on the property – so or first time there was… interesting. the house was a triplex when we bought it – two units downstairs + one unit upstairs – no current tenants, so we started demo pretty quick.

dane and i started gathering folders of ideas we liked – from magazines, pinterest, houzz, instagram and more. we had physical folders full of photos and then we had google drive where we share ideas and hopes of our new home. demo took a while – we knew it was going to be a full gut job. we ended up taking it down to the studs.

we worked with dane’s cousin – josh allen (super talented!!) at j.allen designs, llc to get our plans going. above is the fly around he did from our plans – while we made a few changes since this was done – i still love looking back at it!

we ended up tearing down the entire back apartment unit and rebuilding it – adding a side (wrap around) porch and 8 feet off the south side to match up with the basement better (which we had dug out.) O’Shor Construction did the rebuild, the roof and the garage build.

the house is literally made from hard work + dream home ideas. i am excited and proud to share or home sweet grove and all the diy home projects, ideas and the people that helped us create it. below are some more photos of the demo and reconstruction. the blog will show more – hopefully each week.
